A Project initiated by
THE GERMAN FEDERAL CULTURAL FOUNDATION.
and
THALIA THEATER HALLE.
CO MIC ME E TS THE A TE R/ is the first international festival to explore the creative tensions between comic art and the theater.
CO MIC ME E TS THE A TE R/ focuses especially on the role of comics in contemporary theater and performances, music and media art, urban communication and aesthetics. The goal is to incite new forms of cooperation and interdisciplinary exchange, and to bring together international Manga and comic artists with theater directors, musicians, set designers and actors in projects and workshops.
The festival is part of a Federal Cultural Foundation project to commemorate the 1200th anniversary of the city of Halle. At the same time it is the latest in a series of successful festivals organized by Thalia Theater, in which the theater follows city developments and explores new creative forms.
An impressive program of plays, exhibitions, music, comic performances, interventions in public spaces, film screenings, discussions, a youth competition and workshops in comic and animation for children will take place over ten days. Artists from around the world will be presenting unusual projects and formats, opening a discussion on the critical and creative potential unleashed when comic and theater meet.
